Battle Vision Network Fighting Towards Launch After Netflix Games Upheaval

In 2021, Netflix was seemingly champing at the bit to break into gaming, snapping up studios and hiring industry veterans to direct its ambitions. Five years later, the company is making headlines for its dramatic reversal. A recent Indie Council devoted the Indie News section to exploring Spry Fox buying back its IP from Netflix. The streaming giant had acquired the team behind Cozy Grove and the upcoming Spirit Crossing back in 2022, but late last year, news broke that the team was scrambling to secure stable funding to bring the title to other platforms.

Capybara Games, creators of games like Grindstone and Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes, revealed during Day of the Devs’ 2024 showcase that it was partnering with Netflix Games to publish its next title, Battle Vision Network, on PC and Mobile in the following year. However, the latter’s shifting strategy would affect both the game’s launch and its initial vision.

Battle Vision Network set out to be an approachable competitive experience, with players choosing a team to duke it out against another player’s champions. With this structure, the future of each faction would have been determined in real life, as the community succeeded or failed with its choices.

However, the developers had to make a “major directional change” owing to moving priorities within Netflix, which is still working with the team to launch the game on mobile. Multiplayer will no longer serve as the core of the game. Instead, the title will follow down the rougelike road, with one run playing out a “season” of the fictional megasport.

Players will still take the reins of an intergalactic team of color-coded, match-three competitors. Each have their own set of animated characters and strategic strengths. However, one team in particular caught my attention during a brief preview: Mascot Rejects. It may just be my enthusiasm for Promise Mascot Agency, but I have a soft spot for off-kilter spokespeople.

Despite fearing they’d have to walk away from their latest project, Capybara Games’ team now expects to launch the revised Battle Vision Network in late 2026.
