Nintendo threw us into a tizzy yesterday, announcing it would debut a partner showcase Direct this morning. As an indie fan, these particular presentations offer the most promising chances to get news on smaller projects coming to the company’s consoles. You can watch the entire Direct here, but I’ve rounded up the hotest the indie announcements that caught my eye below.
Orbitals
I am loving the trend of indies increasingly looking like anime from my childhood. This isn’t the first look we’ve had of Orbitals — that came a few months ago during The Game Awards — but I don’t get tired of watching its gameplay. The co-op adventure is set to release exclusively for Switch 2 in the summer.
Valheim
While I wait with bated breath for Enshrouded, an action survival game that assuredly took notes from Valheim, Nintendo is bringing the title that started it all to its newest platform. According to the company, it will be “fully optimized for Nintendo Switch 2, including support for the Joy-Con 2 mouse functionality and HD rumble 2.” It will be interesting to see which project launches first this year.
Hollow Knight
While many are finishing up the sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong, they may find themselves eager to run back through Team Cherry’s original title. For those players, today’s announcement that Hollow Knight is getting a shiny Switch 2 edition dropping in just a few hours may be an unlooked-for boon.
Sizzle Reel
Nearing the end of the Direct, we got a flood of short call-outs for games hitting Switch 2, indie and otherwise. You can view the full 2-minute clip above, but the participants I clocked include Reanimal, Scott Pilgrim EX, and Goat Simulator 3.
