The Secret Of Weepstone Has A Demo Up – Don’t Miss It

One of the many spices of this chilling season is thematic showcases highlighting creepy, haunting, and enthralling indies. Case in point, The Indie Horror Showcase bubbled over with spooky charm today, and you should treat yourself to the whole show.

Perhaps the sweetest drop of the show was The Indie Informer’s Game of the Show at PAX West, The Secret of Weepstone is handing out a free sample of its gameplay for everyone. A demo of the deliciously old-school dangueon crawler is on Steam right now.

Having gone hands-on with (probably a very similar) slice of the game recently, I resolved to watch this one carefully. Here’s a portion of my thoughts:

The faces lining the tavern are grim, at best. Once a prosperous town, the village of Weepstone has plunged into destitution as the noble family’s fortunes fell. Gaunt, dangerous, and opportunistic eyes stare into my soul as I pick among them six heroes to lead the Weepstone expedition.

I soon discover a statue, tall and imposing, in the entry hall. Now, I could search for traps, and I did, but I picked my badly suited Dwarf party member for the job in my haste. He believed all was fine, and so I interacted with it. All was not fine.
