What does a tavern-keeping RPG, a galactic dating mystery, and a stealth roguelite have in common? It’s not a lot, but one of them is that they’re all coming soon, and you’ll want to have them on your radar. Indie games are so much fun, y’all. Where else do you get to write that kind of sentence knowing you’ll be playing the experiences that inspired it soon?

Another Pint
It’s the last day of PAX West. Your feet are so far past hurting, they throb with their own consciousness. The thinning crowds part and your salvation appears: A booth with an intriguing indie along with seating. The charm only increased as I jumped into the demo to discover my carefully crafted protagonist has stats based on both my choice of motivation and background.
My character only wanted to chase adventure, but found themselves in debt and shipped off to a new land to run a tavern to pay it back. The brief look into the gameplay didn’t give me a firm grasp on how the adventure would unfold. Still, the game’s serving/decorating/questing systems could prove a seriously dangerous combination.

Don’t Wake The Beast
Standing in a room positively bursting with treasure, I’m only moments from every dream I’ve ever had coming true. There’s just one thing. I have to grab it without waking the sleeping dragon making the hoard its bed. It turns out that’s harder said than done.
I didn’t become rich beyond my wildest imaginings that day — though a crowd gathered around me in real life to cheer me on in hopes I’d get to the exit before being burnt to a crisp. If I had been a little more cautious, I could have retreated with a modest prize to grow my inventory, which already included a grappling hook I could use to snatch far-away treasure, trigger traps, or swing through the air and avoid danger. Oh well, there’s always next time. I’m sure I’ll make wiser choices.

Sucker for Love: Crush Landing
It’s no secret that I’m a fan of the Sucker For Love series, with my review of the latest entry saying it’s, “gloriously twisted, compassionate, and made me rush to end the world over and over.” I was jazzed when I heard the developer was planning a new release, but didn’t expect to go hands-on anytime this year.
How delightfully wrong I was! The new opening sets up a wild narrative. Having crashed straight into my apartment, a comet transforms from an inanimate rock chunk to a living, breathing woman. Or, I guess, it eventually turns into a woman after trying a variety of bizarre forms. But what does it want? And how am I going to deal with it? That remains to be seen. And I’m looking forward to learning more.
