They say sometimes that love can lie not in the heart, but in the eye. And if that’s the case than I am head-over-heels for a ton of indie games. A sea of beauty swamped me on the PAX West floor this year, making this one of the hardest categories to narrow down. However, for you, I managed. These three upcoming titles earned special accolades through their stunning visuals and artistic brilliance.

Usual June
Holy vibrancy, Batman! Everything from the backgrounds to the characters to the combats seems to have been dipped in saturation for Finji’s next game. And while the visuals will certainly draw you in the publisher/developer behind some of my favorite games — including Tunic — promise an experience that’s “equal parts terrifying, funny, and sweet.”

Outrider Mako
Throw a little pixelated combat into Spirited Away and you have some idea what to expect for Outrider Mako. As it turned out, my time at PAX was not my first go at this title. I had actually managed to get ahold of a demo back before the game had English localization, which was fun. So, it was amazing to be able to understand, somewhat, the happenings of this underground world of delivery. And there’s just so much goo.

Everdeep Aurora
As emphatically affirmed on Special Edition PAX west episode of Crossplay Conversations, Everdeep Aurora deserves to be on everyone’s indie top-anticipated list. After this event, I hope the stylish 16-bit adventure picks up an overwhelming serge of fans. Not just a pretty face, Everdeep Aurora follows a tiny kitten whose mother has disappeared in the wake of a literal apocalypses. The only tool you have to find her is a drill lent to you by, possibly, the world’s best-named frog, Ribbert.
