It often seems like the kindest, most well-adjusted people create the most disturbing and horrific media. That rings true with Cozy Game Pals, the husband and wife development team behind the upcoming horror title Fear the Spotlight. A new behind-the-scenes video shines its spotlight on creators Bryan and Christa as they discuss their passion for games, horror inspirations, and how their applying a cozy design philosophy to make Fear the Spotlight as inviting as it is hair-raising.
The video shows that in between raising a child and a dog, the cozy-game-loving couple spends their time concocting scares for Fear the Spotlight. It’s always cool to put faces to studio names, and the video does a good job juxtaposing the pair’s chill demeanors and lifestyle to the tense, supernatural horror of Fear the Spotlight. While horror is generally an oppressive genre by design, it’s cool to that Cozy Game Pals have designed Fear the Spotlight to be more mechanically inviting to less experienced players looking for scares more inspired by Goosebumps than P.T.

Fear the Spotlight serves as an homage to ‘90s horror titles and stars two students, Vivian and Amy, surviving in a school after hours following a seance gone wrong. The creepy adventure originally launched on PC last September to a positive reception; so much so that after Blumhouse Games’ formation, it signed a publishing deal with Cozy Games Pals. The extra funding allowed for Cozy Game Pals to update and improve Fear the Spotlight and develop console ports, so it’s been unavailable for purchase since then.
When Fear the Spotlight makes its grand return later this year, you can check it out on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC. Be sure to check out our hand-on preview of the game here.
