Day Of The Devs Showcase: Top 5 Games We’re Excited To Play Next Year

Making its Game Awards debut, the Day of the Devs showcase was an hour-and-a-half-long sight to behold. With so much indie crammed into one event, it would be easy to miss out on a few stray gems. But we have our spotlight handy! Though the entire show (which you can watch here) featured a worthwhile kaleidoscope of titles without a clear release date, below are five games coming out in 2024 indie fans will want to mark on their calendars.

Ultros

Ultros is a psychedelic metroidvania…gardening sim? We learned so much more about the eye-catching title in today’s showcase than we did in the game’s arresting debut. For one, it’s set to come out soon — February 13. The team also shared that its gameplay will grant skills based on nurturing the various lifeforms found in its colorful setting. Though, combat is still definitely on display in the trailer!

Thank Goodness You’re Here

Okay, so it may be cheating a bit to include this on the list as The Indie Informer went hands-on with it at PAX West. But the experience certainly left an impression. So, when the bright and puzzling game popped up with a 2024 release window, it was hard to resist.

Open Roads

I can’t see this game without thinking of the talented Kim Wallace, who wrote a feature on Fullbright’s journey with the road trip title. Open Roads has been spinning its tires for a while, so seeing its February 22 release reveal here was a pleasant surprise. The hand-drawn visuals and mysterious story remain as alluring as ever.

Hermit And Pig

Giving us a general 2024 timeframe, Hermit and Pig is set to make next year just a little stranger. The dynamic duo of this adventure consists of an old man and his expert truffle-hunting companion. Plus, they have matching hats, which is perfect. Sadly, their secluded lives are interrupted, leading to combat oddly reminiscent of a Pokémon battle.

Flock

I. Can’t. Wait. With no want of a lie, spring 2024 can’t come soon enough because I need to start rounding up a herd of fluffy, floating sheep. Our first introduction to this game gave a general idea of the gameplay, including its intriguing multiplayer monster-catching concept. But this time around, fans got glimpse of the “naturalist” style exploration and vast array of biomes.
